West Wind Island
West Wind Island
The Cottage on West Wind Island in Go Home Bay has been a magnet for artists and others attracted to the light, colours, and remarkable forms of wind-shaped rocks and trees of the region for a century now. I have had the pleasure of visiting on two occasions. Built by Dr. James MacCallum, the cottage was acquired by Mr. and Mrs. H.R. Jackman in 1949, and it and the island have been lovingly maintained by the Jackman family ever since. Robert Lipgar’s photos, taken over a period of about 25 years, capture, almost magically, both the singular and visual qualities of the place and the sustaining love of its current keepers. It is almost as good as being there.
